Who we are

Hi, this is Jeannine - My family has worked land for generations.

We knew home grown foods to be of superior quality and taste.  In the 1960's we were practicing Organic Techniques by default, but found patenting, genetic manipulation and chemical augmentation came creeping in.  We also discovered that alternative and more modern farming was not contrary to Organics and that in fact, Organic most often outperforms conventional methods - certainly more tasty!

Early Days

We started a land sharing venture in the late 1980's.  That went so well, that we had more than enough for ourselves and even too much to share with friends, so we began sales to local restaurants and grocers.  This also spurred a desire to be part of a growing Organic Movement.  We raised a lot of Tomatoes, Peppers, Onions, Cucumbers, Lettuce and Herbs.  We had a LOT of fun and met a lot of really awesome people!

Ama-Lurra Acres is becoming a Co-op

Ama-Lurra Acres is now nearly 40 years indevelopment.           We are a cooperative of owned, leased and lent parcels of land upon which we grow foods and help other Organic Farmers get their products out to the public.                                              We are all proud to grow the food that feeds your families.    Thank you for supporting the tradition of cooperative, family owned, family run, independent farms and farmsteads.

Healthy Food

This is the ancient Native American method of growing Corn, Beans and Squash, known as "The Three Sisters"  The corn gets Nitrogen from the Beans, The Beans are supported by the corn and the Squash shades the ground and keeps moisture and   temperature ideal, also keeps the weeds down.

It still comes down to ALL of us working together to maintain a sustainable lifestyle.  It is easier to do that when we buy and sell Co-operatively - That's why we are here!

Ama-Lurra Acres is an Organically Certified Operation

We have competed our 2024 organic certification.  Every item we sell is Certified Organic, and of course Non-GMO.  We try always to source our other items from small, local businesses, manufacturers and proprietors.

Who Is ama-lurra?

The ancient mythology of the Basque provinces extends back to the ages when man lived in caves. Ama-Lurra is the Earth Mother of that area. It is said that she nurtured humans by giving us the shelter of her womb-like caves to sleep and avoid predators. But mankind needed light to live and the dark can be a scary place. Ama-Lurra gave of herself some more with birth to her daughter the moon to help with the dark of night and then her other daughter the sun so that man could go forth and thrive in the world

Ama-Lurra (Mother Earth) and her Daughters, the Sun and Moon,  from Basque Mythology.   Her myth extends back to the ages when man lived in caves.
